Aztar CEO to Retire10 December 2004PHOENIX, Arizona – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Aztar Corporation (NYSE: AZR) announced today that Paul E. Rubeli has informed the Board of Directors of his intention to retire from his positions as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective March 1, 2005. Aztar's Board of Directors today selected Robert M. Haddock, President and Chief Financial Officer, to succeed Mr. Rubeli as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board, also effective March 1, 2005. "I will miss my co-workers at Aztar," Mr. Rubeli said. "With the completion of the major expanson of our flagship Atlantic City property, the timing is right for an orderly transition in management. "Since the formation of Aztar fifteen years ago, our goals always have been to focus on the creation of ever-increasing shareholder value as our top priority, to provide a professional work environment for our employees and managers, and to be good corporate citizens in the communities where we operate;" Mr. Rubeli said. "I am proud of the progress we have made in attaining these goals, and I am pleased that Bob will be taking over the running of our company with the same high goals and standards of performance." Mr. Haddock said, "I am very excited about the opportunity to lead Aztar. Paul Rubeli has been my friend and mentor for over 15 years. Thanks to him, we have a strong company with a great management team and I believe we have terrific prospects. Our intention is to continue to operate and develop the company in ways consistent with the principles that we have adhered to since our founding." Mr. Haddock, 59, has been a senior executive of the company since its incorporation in 1989, serving as President and Chief Financial Officer since 2002 and previously as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
