Australian Racetrack Ban For Gang Suspects

VICTORIA, Australia – As reported by the Courier-Mail: "Suspected gangsters and organised crime identities will be banned from racetracks under new laws approved by the Victoria Government.

"Cabinet has approved laws that will further curb the activities of people suspected of being connected to organised crime.

"Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon will be able to ban anyone from every Victorian track.

"…It is believed police have a list of dozens of other alleged mobsters who will all soon be banned from the casino and racetracks.

"…Racing Minister John Pandazopoulos will introduce legislation in the autumn session of Parliament that will give police the power to ban people from setting foot on Victorian racecourses. Police Minister Tim Holding yesterday said the presence of some people on racetracks was undesirable.

"Anyone who breaches the ban faces a $2000 fine - the same penalty is expected to apply with racecourses.

"…The casino has been a favourite haunt of underworld figures. Extensive security camera coverage make it an unlikely place for a shooting…"
