Australian Pokie Inquiry Ordered

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Australia Age: "The Victorian government has ordered an inquiry into profiting through poker machines installed in sporting and community clubs.

"The inquiry will examine gaming businessman Bruce Mathieson, who has an interest in almost a quarter of all pokies in the state's pubs and clubs.

"The government says it is concerned Mr Mathieson is profiting from gaming machines in sporting and community clubs, which receive large tax breaks for investing profits in the community, it was reported today.

"…The probe will be part of a larger review of pokies licences that expire in 2012…"
