Australian Opposition Targets ATMs

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the (Australia) Age.com: "A federal Labor government could use Commonwealth power over the placement of automatic teller machines as part of a national effort to combat excessive gambling, the Opposition Leader, Mark Latham, has indicated.

"…He said ATMs, which come within federal banking powers, arguably should not be in gaming establishments because people losing money could easily get more cash.

"…Victoria's acting Treasurer, John Lenders, said: 'We are always open to suggestions for helping problem gamblers. The Bracks Government is not against gambling. Our focus is on helping problem gamblers.'…"
