Australian MP Warns of Pokie Loophole

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Australia Broadcasting Corporation: "No Pokies MP Nick Xenophon says a legal loophole is set to be exploited, allowing the number of South Australia's poker machines to be increased.

"He says a business consortium is planning to establish a new gaming venue at Morphett Vale and lease it to a club under a proposed arrangement.

"…Uniting Care Wesley says the existing law allows clubs to be exempted from the State Government's poker machine reduction measures and risks exacerbating the problem of gambling by outsourcing the management of clubs to hotels.

"Gambling Minister Michael Wright says there is no loophole and any new club proposal will need to satisfy a series of stringent requirements for approval by the Liquor Licensing Commissioner…"
