Australian MP Seeks Heroin Cure for Gambling Addicts

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation: "No Pokies MP Nick Xenophon says problem gamblers should be given the same drug that is used to cure heroin addicts.

"Mr Xenophon says research published in the past three years indicates that the drug, Naltrexone, reduces severe gambling.

"He wants it placed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) to reduce the cost to gambling addicts from $258 a month to only $23 per month.

"…Professor James Westphal from the San Francisco General Hospital says there has been significant clinical experience in using Naltrexone to treat gambling addicts in the United States…"
