Australian Jockey, Bookmaker Challenge Ad Policy

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Australia Daily Telegraph: "Imagine Sydney's champion jockey Corey Brown wearing commercial advertising from bookmaker Colin Tidy in races?

"…Brown and Tidy are preparing to challenge racing industry policy which prevents a jockey from wearing advertising on his riding britches in races.

"The jockey and the bookmaker have already agreed to negotiate a sponsorship deal in light of a US Supreme Court decision yesterday to allow jockeys to wear individual sponsorship brands when competing in tomorrow's Kentucky Derby.

"…Brown isn't the only Australian jockey wanting the rules amended.

"A number of other riders have already sought legal advice, with high- profile lawyer Chris Murphy being approached to look at the issue.

"With a precedent now being set in the US, Brown is hopeful of effecting a policy change here.

"Tidy said once he became aware of the American court decision, he made immediate approaches to Brown's manager Bryan Haskins to see whether the jockey would consider being sponsored by his firm, Horsebet.com.au…"
