Australian Group Wants Pokie Cap Scrapped

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Herald Sun: "Victorian publicans want to see pokies in every pub. The Australian Hotel Association believes caps on poker machine numbers should be scrapped, allowing every hotel access to gaming revenue.

"The AHA's Victorian chief executive, Brian Kearney, said a system similar to New South Wales' would be fairer to the industry.

"…Mr Kearney acknowledged that the State Government was unlikely to reverse the caps policy, which limits poker machines to 27,500 in pubs and clubs and 2500 in Crown casino.

"But he said there was no proof that the caps had any effect on reducing the social impact of gambling…"
