Australian Government's Gambling Agenda Criticized

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Adelaide Advertiser: "State governments are 'dumbing down' research on gambling to avoid scrutiny, a conference has been told.

"The former chairwoman of Victoria's gambling research panel has told the International Pokies Impact Conference in Adelaide that governments are trying to have 'complete control of the agenda on gambling'.

"Associate Professor of public policy at Deakin University, Linda Hancock, said the states must conduct independent research on problem gambling.

"Professor Hancock said one report by South Australian researchers on the community impact of poker machines had been withheld since April…"
