AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation: "The Federal Government says alleged links with Kerry Packer's company Publishing and Broadcasting Limited (PBL) were not behind its decision to block the Christmas Island casino licence.

"Christmas Island residents say the decision to block the casino is devastating to their economy.

"They say Federal Government support for mainland businesses such as Perth's Burswood Casino is behind the decision.

"…Federal Minister for Territories Jim Lloyd says the suggestion the Christmas Island casino decision has anything to do with this is ridiculous…"
