Australian government determined on pokie reform

16 January 2012

AUSTRALIA -- The Australian government has reiterated its commitment to pokie reform and mandatory pre-commitment schemes in particular, The Australian reported.

The minority Gillard government which did a deal with Independent Tasmanian MP Andrew Wilkie says it is working hard to deliver on that agreement, the report said.

Mandatory pokie machine pre-commitment schemes and proposals for reform have caused uproar in the gaming and hotel industry, where jobs could be impacted.

There is also every indication that the proposed reforms could crumble in parliament because there is insufficient support for them from the back bench, according to The Australian report.
