Australian Gaming Machines to be Removed

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Australian: "Three thousand gaming machines look set to be removed from South Australian pubs and clubs in what the Australian Hotels Association (AHA) today described as "window-dressing".

"SA Premier Mike Rann today announced a Bill would be introduced into Parliament to reduce the number of poker machines in SA by 20 per cent. The announcement follows a recommendation by the Independent Gambling Authority last year to cut gaming machine numbers to 12,000 from the present 15,000.

"…The government said it was unsure how much revenue would be lost by reducing poker machine numbers and said no compensation would be paid to venues…"
