Australian ATM Limits Rejected

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Advertiser: "Banks and the Federal Government are resisting moves to limit automatic teller machine withdrawals in gaming venues.

"State Government ministers have called on the Commonwealth to use its powers to force the banks to act, but their requests are falling on deaf ears.

"Gambling Minister Michael Wright has told No Pokies MLC Nick Xenophon that "'he Federal Government is not willing to assist in this manner'.

"In SA, people can only withdraw $200 per transaction from ATMs in gaming venues. There is an unproclaimed provision in the laws that would tighten this to only one withdrawal per card per day in a gaming venue, while maintaining the $200 maximum.

"However, Mr Wright said the provision was impossible to implement at present…"
