Australia: Victoria launches attack on federal pokie plan6 December 2010VICTORIA, Australia -- The Victorian government intends to reject the federal government's plan for compulsory limits on pokie players, according to The Age. Victoria's Gaming Minister insists that gamblers should make the choice on whether they pre-commit on the amount of money they could lose on a machine, The Age reported quoted. Michael O'Brien compared the federal government's gaming proposals to "Big Brother" and a "nanny state", The Age said. The federal government, however, intends to push ahead with the proposed curbs, in order to secure the support of an Independent Tasmanian MP, The Age report made note. |
