Australia Rules Out Pokie Cap Increases

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Age: "The Bracks Government has come under internal pressure to do more to prevent problem gambling.

"It comes as the Government yesterday ruled out increasing the cap for poker machines from 30,000.

"Labor backbenchers Tony Robinson and Heather McTaggart have called on the Government to focus its attentions on minimising gambling addiction in a submission to the Government's review looking at Victoria's electronic gaming machine, wagering and Club Keno licences after 2012.

"…Gaming Minister John Pandazopoulos said all submissions would be considered but he rejected proposals to increase the 30,000 cap on poker machines…"
