Australia Pokie Companies Postpone Campaign19 September 2003AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Sydney Morning Herald: "Australia's poker machine manufacturers have postponed plans to bankroll a $30 million (US$20.18 million)public relations campaign to reverse the industry's negative image. "The manufacturers - who approached John Singleton to formulate early concepts for the project - have quietly placed the plan on ice, distancing the industry from Clubs NSW's war with the State Government over the new gambling tax regime. "The Herald has learnt that the campaign was to have been rolled out over three years under the Australian Gaming Machine Manufacturers Association (AGMMA), with funding to come from major players including Aristocrat, International Gaming Technologies, Star Games and Ainsworth Gaming Technology. Industry groups, including the Australian Hotels Association and Australia New Zealand Casino Organisations were also to play major roles. "…It is understood that early plans included: "-Strategies to immediately respond to media debates on gambling; "-A major television and newspaper campaign, and what was described as innovative paid media opportunities; "…According to the AGMMA chief executive officer, Ross Ferrar, the project had been under way but was now in abeyance…" |
