Australia: PM avoids pokie clampdown

5 May 2010

AUSTRALIA -- Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd may have expressed a desire to crack down on poker machines, but will not act on a demand to end gaming tax concessions, The Australian reported.

The call was part of a "Henry review" which urged reform of gaming taxation.

The review insisted the government should not use existing concessions on poker machine tax as financial assistance for clubs, The Australian reported.
