Australia: New gaming policy looks to limit problem gambling

17 December 2010

VICTORIA, Australia -- A municipality, Mount Alexander Shire, has introduced a policy that insists gaming enterprises must demonstrate they will not negatively impact the community, ABC Victoria reported.

The policy is an attempt to tackle and lessen problem gambling, the report said.

A recent example under scrutiny is a Castlemaine community club which would contain 65 pokies, which faces vocal opposition because of its proximity to the business district, ABC Victoria said.
