Australia: Mayor opposes Vegas-style gambling strip5 July 2010NORTH QUEENSLAND, Australia -- A north Queensland mayor rejected outright ideas of a Las-Vegas strip in Cairns labelling it "bizarre", ABC News reported. An independent MP is touting a proposal to move Queensland's pokie machines, except those housed in casinos, to Cairns to create a Vegas style strip, ABC said. The mayor, Val Schier, expressed bafflement at the proposal, which the MP will suggest at today's Brisbane tourism conference, ABC said. |
