Australia: Casino gambler blows $3 million

6 October 2008

MELBOURNE, Australia -- As reported by the Herald-Sun: "A Chinese businessman blew $300,000 in less than five minutes playing big-stakes baccarat.

"He was gambling $100,000 a hand in full view of fellow punters in the VIP Mahogany Room, showing little emotion as his riches were swept away.

"...The $3 million gamble, on the eve of the AFL Grand Final, is believed to be one of Crown's biggest pay days in the Mahogany Room.

"Punters willing to risk more than $100,000 on the flip of a single card usually prefer to gamble in private salons on the upper floors of the Crown Towers Hotel..." Crown's owner, PBL, is spending more than $500 million upgrading the Southbank site, including construction of a third hotel tower at the Clarendon St end for $300 million.
