Attorney: Violence Lead to Gambling Habit

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation: "A Commonwealth Bank employee who gambled away more than $1 million after being the victim of robbery and violence in her job was jailed for seven years today.

"Rhoda Ann Bohse, 36, was the assistant manager of a Commonwealth Bank branch at Toowong in Brisbane's west where she systematically stole $1.11 million (US$795,555)over three years.

"…The court heard she was transferring money from a centralised general account to her personal account almost every day and spending it on the pokies either at the Treasury Casino in Brisbane or at local RSL clubs.

"An employee of the Commonwealth Bank for 18 years, Bohse was the victim of a robbery in 1990, where one of two men armed with rifles jumped into her teller's booth.

"Her barrister, Tony Glynn, said panic attacks and post-traumatic stress disorder ensued, and were compounded by agoraphobia after she witnessed an angry client bash a security guard with steel posts in 1993…"
