Atlantic Lotto CEO Defends Practices20 January 2006NEWFOUNDLAND – As reported by the CBC News: "The head of the Atlantic Lottery Corp. was grilled for several hours Thursday during hearings at the Public Accounts Committee of the provincial legislature. "Chief executive officer Michelle Carinci defended Atlantic Lotto's business practices – including its advertising strategies – as members of the House of Assembly fired one question after another. "A first-ever study on the prevalence of gambling in Newfoundland and Labrador that was released in November showed about 18 per cent of video lottery terminal users were at risk of developing an addiction. "Carinci told PAC members that Atlantic Lotto is trying to help problem gamblers and to discourage youth gambling. "…Carinci said banning VLTs is not a practical nor a healthy solution…"
