Atlantic Lottery turns over files

NOVA SCOTIA -- As reported by the CBC News: "The Atlantic Lottery Corporation said Friday it will release files to police for further investigation after a two-month investigation raised concerns over how the agency protected customers from retailers who might have taken their winnings.

"The independent probe by KPMG Forensic Inc. found 85 wins of more than $25,000 by retailers, worth more than $14 million, the lottery corporation said.

"A previous internal review found that retailers were winning major prizes at a rate 10 times higher than was statistically probable over a six-year period.

"…KPMG said it found the corporation didn't always know that winners were retailers and that there wasn't a formal investigation into frequent retailer wins…"
