Atlantic City Strike Affects Others

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "The effects of the Local 54 of Unite Here strike has gone beyond the casinos. But the difference between winning and losing is only about the length of a city block.

"Someone driving down Pacific Avenue might think it's the Econo Lodge at Morris Avenue being picketed.

"…'It has definitely affected business,' Econo Lodge general manager Paul Pillay said Wednesday.

"…While customers with reservations may not be aware of the strike, they find out soon enough. Some scheduled to stay two or three days have checked out early, Pillay said.

"…But take a walk down Morris Avenue to the corner of Atlantic and it's a much sweeter story.

"Thanks to the strike, business is booming at the 24-hour Dunkin' Donuts, according to manager Jay Ramulu.

"…Every four hours, as the pickets change shifts, the Dunkin' Donuts gets a windfall.

"…On the Boardwalk, noise from the strike was deafening in front of the Country Kitchen near the Tropicana before noon Wednesday…"
