Atlantic City Mayor Accused of Union Busting8 October 2004ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "City Council President Craig Callaway publicly accused the mayor of attending a casino function in spite of the strike by the casino-workers union. "Callaway leveled what appears already to be a campaign charge against Mayor Lorenzo Langford during Wednesday's City Council meeting. "…'It is not myself who has busted the union, but I do know a person who undermines the union, and he works in this building,' Callaway said. 'It was Mayor Langford who was supposed to be a friend of Local 54 who crossed the picket line and ate food prepared by casino executives at Bally's.' "…The mayor said he did attend the function at Bally's Atlantic City marking the 100th anniversary of St. Michael's Church, but he did not eat, drink or engage in any behavior that would have helped the casino's profits. "…Langford said he still supports Local 54, and he believes its officials know he meant no disrespect…" |
