Atlantic City Comp Tax Elimination Gets Support

TRENTON, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "The head of the Governor's Authorities Unit has requested a three-year phase-out of a state tax on complimentary rooms and meals offered by casinos.

"Authorities Unit Director Paul Fader will tout the gradual elimination of the tax as good news for the casino industry when he delivers the keynote address this afternoon at the Mid-Atlantic Gaming Congress in Atlantic City.

"In a May 10 memo to Gov. James E. McGreevey obtained by The Press of Atlantic City, Fader recommends the 4.25 percent tax be reduced by one-third each year, beginning in July 2006. The state would stop collecting the tax as of July 2009…"
