Atlantic City Casinos Continue Despite Garage Collapse

31 October 2003

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the South Jersey Courier Post: "A deadly construction accident also disrupted normal life for many people here Thursday, causing traffic to snarl and forcing some hotel guests from their rooms.

"But the collapse of a parking garage at the Tropicana didn't silence casino floors in this seaside gambling capital.

"…Maybe they didn't know in the city's midtown area, but the tragedy's impact was inescapable less than a mile away.

"The Tropicana's west hotel tower, across Brighton Avenue from the collapsed garage, was evacuated shortly after the accident about 10:45 a.m. A multilevel garage beneath the tower also was closed.

"…The Tropicana canceled Thursday night's performance of Showgirls of Magic. But action on the casino floor seemed to be uninterrupted.

"Other gaming halls, including Bally's Atlantic City and the Atlantic City Hilton, likewise showed no sign of the accident's impact."
