16 September 2004

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Thousands of union protesters are expected to rally on the Boardwalk today in a show of solidarity designed to pressure the casinos to settle on a new contract.

"Members of Local 54 of UNITE HERE will march toward each other from opposite ends of the Boardwalk beginning at 5 p.m. One group will start at Albany Avenue and the other at New Jersey Avenue, eventually coming together in front of Boardwalk Hall for a mass rally.

Union members have stayed on the job since their five-year contract expired midnight Tuesday, but McDevitt said a walkout remains a possibility if the casinos fail to meet Local 54's demands.
