Atlantic City Casino Dealers Move to Unionize

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Casino employees who know the odds best are trying to defy them by seeking union representation.

"Dealers at Bally's, Caesars and Hilton called in Teamsters Local 331 to help get stable wages, a lower threshold for full-time benefits and better treatment from management.

"Dealers are passing out pledge cards to join the union, which previously failed to organize dealers at Tropicana and Trump Plaza.

"…Caesars Entertainment, which owns the three casinos - Bally's Atlantic City, Caesars Atlantic City and the Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort - said dealers are better off without a union.

"… The last serious effort here came in 1996, when Local 331 fell two votes short of representing dealers at the Tropicana Casino and Resort. A 1997 attempt by Local 331 to organize dealers at the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino never came to a vote…"
