Arkansas Pull-Tab Tickets Pulled

ARKANSAS – As reported by the (Arkansas) Daily Citizen: "Lotteries are illegal in Arkansas, but for a brief moment a Searcy convenience store was selling pull tabs that looked an awful lot like lottery tickets - so much like lottery tickets that the Searcy Police Department and Prosecuting Attorney Chris Raff asked the store to stop selling them.

"Responding to a citizen complaint, police Monday investigated the sale of 'Poppin Pepper' phone cards at Flash Market on Truman Baker Road. The cards were nominally a $1 promotional phone card, but the bigger draw appeared to be a chance win up to $10,000 in a 'sweepstakes.'

"…Typically, phone card sweepstakes promoters claim that sale of the cards isn't a lottery because customers need not buy a card to enter the sweepstakes…"
