Arkansas Gambling Proposal Rejected2 August 2005LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas – As reported by the Arkansas News Bureau: "A state legislator's ballot proposal to legalize gambling was shot down Monday by Attorney General Mike Beebe because of a typographical error in the measure's title. "It was the third rejection this year for Rep. Charles Ormond, D-Morrilton. An incomplete sentence in the popular name of the proposal led to Beebe's refusal of this measure. "…Ormond's proposal would amend the state constitution to create a state-owned company regulating gambling, charitable bingo and a state lottery. His measure was not selected by the Legislature for referral to the voters next year…" |
