Arizona tribes give $28.1 million to state

ARIZONA -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Arizona's Indian tribes gave a record $28.1 million to the state for the April-June quarter as part of the voter-approved casino revenue-sharing program in place since April 2003, the Arizona Department of Gaming said.

"Roughly half that amount, $14 million, will go to school districts across the state, as spelled out in Proposition 202. The 2002 measure allowed tribes to add blackjack tables and more slot machines in exchange for opening casino books to state audits and sharing 1 percent to and 8 percent of their gambling revenues.

"The quarter's share is the largest yet and a 10.2 percent increase over spring 2006. The tribes will likely fork over even more casino winnings in October, as has happened each fall..."
