Arizona tribe moves, expands casino

14 March 2007

ARIZONA – As reported by the Arizona Republic: "The Gila River Indian Community is doubling the size of its smallest casino and moving it to an area southwest of the Hunt Highway and Gilbert Road, just south of Chandler.

"The $60 million project is expected to be ready by fall 2008.

"The community hopes to take advantage of growth east of the site, but it also was forced to move Lone Butte because, as announced last August, it also is moving its largest Wild Horse Pass Casino closer to Interstate 10.

"…Gordon Santos Sr., chairman of the Gila River Casino expansion owner's team, said the group decided to move the casino about 16 miles east and south after a study showed that location offers great economic opportunities because of growth along Hunt Highway in Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek and all the way out to Florence…"
