Arizona Tribe Chooses Site for Casino2 February 2005ARIZONA – As reported by the Arizona Republic: "After looking at the pros and cons of moving the Rawhide Western Town farther south, a Gila River Indian Community board has decided to stick to its original site. "It will be located on the northern part of the Gila community, less than two miles south of Ahwatukee. "The Wild Horse Pass Development Authority's board concluded the original 100-acre site north of the Wild Horse Pass Casino is the best after hearing from an outside firm hired to evaluate the two sites, said Dale Gutenson, general manager of the authority. "…The development authority, which is overseeing the development of about 2,500 acres, considered moving Rawhide to a larger 300-acre site about a mile south to make room for two hotels, stores and rodeo arena. "Instead, they are sticking with original plans to set it up between the Wild Horse Pass Casino and Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa, near a man-made river that winds around the projects. There is already an equestrian center and small Western town near the resort…" |
