Arizona Tribal Casino Contribution Up

ARIZONA – As reported by the Arizona Republic: "Arizona Indian Gaming tribes paid $22.8 million to the state in the past quarter, a 22 percent jump from the $18.7 million contributed the same time last year.

"The Arizona Department of Gaming announced Thursday that it collected the money based on casino revenues from July 1 to Sept. 30. The money will be used for administrative and regulatory costs, education, trauma and emergency services, wildlife conservation, tourism and treatment of problem gambling.

"Sheila Morago, executive director of the Arizona Indian Gaming Association, said the entire hospitality industry is having a strong year.

"Morago said the numbers show that tribes are making good business decisions and that the compact hammered out with the state in 2003 is working. Tribes pay the state 1 to 8 percent of their revenues on a sliding scale. As they make more during the year, they pay more…"
