Arizona Receives $37.8 Million from Casino Tribes

ARIZONA – As reported by the Arizona Republic: "One year: $37.8 million.

"That was the state's cut of Arizona Indian casino gambling revenues in the first full year of contributions under a voter-approved proposition in 2002 to expand Indian gambling.

"…Additionally, tribes gave an estimated $5.1 million directly to cities, counties and towns, bringing to $42.9 million the total revenue shared by tribes for the year ended March 31.

"The state had projected a first-year total of $54 million.

"…Some of the lower revenues are due to tribes installing additional slot machines allowed under Proposition 202 slower than anticipated, she said. The state expects to have a better read on tribal contributions after Sept. 30, when tribes will have completed their first full fiscal year of revenue sharing…"
