Arizona Lottery Drawings Televised

2 March 2006

PHOENIX, Arizona – (PRESS RELEASE) -- For the first time ever, players in southern Arizona can tune in to a local television station for their winning lottery numbers. Beginning today, KOLD News 13 in Tucson will air the Arizona Lottery drawings for The Pick(TM), Fantasy 5(TM), Pick 3(TM) and the multi- state Powerball(R) game during the 10 p.m. evening news. Players will be able to view the respective daily drawings all at once Monday through Saturday.

"Southern Arizona is an important market and constituency for the Arizona Lottery. We're committed to making Arizona a better place to live, and KOLD News 13 will play a key role in our efforts to reach players and constituents across Arizona," said Art Macias, executive director of the Arizona Lottery. "KOLD News 13's ideas and willingness to support the Arizona Lottery stood out during the selection process. We're glad to welcome our new partner into the lottery family."

"We look forward to this new relationship with the Arizona Lottery," said Jim Arnold, vice president and general manager of KOLD News 13. "We recognized early on that it was an excellent opportunity for all involved - us, our viewers and people that play the lottery in southern Arizona. It's a win-win all around, and we're delighted to have been selected as the local television drawing partner."

KOLD News 13 was one of several broadcast stations that submitted a proposal to be the English-language drawing broadcast partner for the Arizona Lottery in southern Arizona. The request-for-information was distributed to broadcast affiliates across the state by Riester~Robb, the Lottery's marketing firm, on behalf of the Arizona Lottery in early November. The marketing proposal for a drawing broadcast partner stems from a long-term initiative to transmit the drawings statewide to both English- and Spanish-speaking audiences. Riester~Robb is currently reviewing all other proposals. Beyond providing consumers in southern Arizona with a convenient, consistent time slot and a permanent home for all of the drawings, KOLD News 13 has committed to additional long-term marketing elements to support the Lottery as a whole.

Included in the station's package is not only a promotional schedule, but an aggressive campaign to generate excitement about the Arizona Lottery's drawings on KOLD, but also continued collaboration including weekly jackpot amount mentions; cross-promotional opportunities on their websites, at community events and with third parties; as well as a half-hour show to air twice a year, dedicated to showcasing public programs and services that are supported by the dollars raised through the sale of tickets. The package is solely a value-for-value partnership at no hard costs to the Lottery.

In turn, the Arizona Lottery will include the KOLD logo on its outdoor jackpot boards in the Tucson market and direct players to KOLD for the drawings, on printed Lottery tickets, on its website and on radio traffic commercials.

Infrastructure to transmit the drawings statewide to both English and Spanish-speaking audiences was put in place in May of last year, when the Lottery made the technological leap to a state-of-the-art digital drawing system.

Players can log on to ArizonaLottery.com for drawing results and can sign up to receive the winning numbers via e-mail. Players can also check their numbers by calling the winning numbers hotlines at 480-829-PICK in Phoenix and 1-800-499-3798 in all other Arizona areas. The winning lottery numbers are also published in the Arizona Daily Star the day after each drawing. Powerball(R) and The Pick(TM) drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday evening. Fantasy 5(TM) and Pick 3(TM) drawings are held Monday through Saturday evenings.
