Arizona Group Pickets for Higher Wages14 July 2006ARIZONA – As reported by the Arizona Star: "A union-led group is picketing for higher wages and benefits for construction workers at a casino-hotel project on the Tohono O'odham Reservation. "Members of Carpenters Local 1506 stood in front of the Desert Diamond Casino, 7350 S. Nogales Highway, near a 20-foot-long banner that said 'Shame on Desert Diamond Casino, Labor Dispute.' "On Wednesday and Thursday, the group members passed out fliers, criticizing Desert Diamond Casino, the Tohono O'odham Nation, Kitchell Construction and Universal Wallboard Corp. for paying 'substandard' wages and lobbying for better health-care and pension benefits for construction workers.
