Architect Named for Genting Bid

SINGAPORE – As reported by Channel News Asia: "An architect whose imprint can be found on stainless steel tea kettles around the world, as well as Florida's Walt Disney World Resort, has been unveiled as the creative force behind Genting International's Sentosa bid.

"American architect Michael Graves - who designs both high-end and mass market products for Italian design house Alessi and US retailer Target respectively - plans to create a 460-room boutique hotel in the resort, called The Michael Hotel.

"Artwork for the facade of The Michael Hotel and general overviews of the resort were revealed to reporters for the first time at Michael Graves & Associates' headquarters in Princeton, New Jersey, last week.

"…Unlike most casinos which are enclosed with no natural light, Mr Burke said that the design will be 'discreet' yet 'open'.

"It will be the first time that Mr Graves, who has taught architecture at Princeton University for over 40 years, will be designing an entire hotel - right down to the furniture and accessories…"
