Aqueduct breaks ground

1 November 2010

NEW YORK -- Yesterday there was a groundbreaking ceremony at Aqueduct race track, but not everybody was cheering, according to The New York Daily News.

About 100 vendors from a fleamarket that has taken place for 25 years each Sunday in the Aqeuduct parking lot staged a protest, the report said.

The market vendors lease expires in December and there is not yet any indication of where they might move to, the New York Daily News said.

Genting, who are developing the casino, and the New York Racing Board say discussions are ongoing over what will happen to the vendors, the report added.
