Anti-casino drive gains momentum in India

30 June 2008

Panaji, INDIA -- As reported The Times of India: "The agitation against floating casinos saw a second chapter at Verem where anti-gambling activists staged a demonstration on Saturday evening.

Addressing the meeting, Saligao MLA Dilip Parulekar vowed to stand with the people in opposing the setting up of casinos that would destroy the social fabric of Goa.

Utt Goenkara spokesman Advocate Aires Rodrigues called upon chief minister Digambar Kamat to abide by the wishes of the people and not allow any casinos in the State. "If the politicians need a casino they could convert the stranded River Princess into one," said Rodrigues.
