Anti-Casino Crusader Compares Connecticut to Chernobyl16 April 2004CONNECTICUT – As reported by the Connecticut Day: "As far as the Rev. Tom Grey is concerned, southeastern Connecticut, home to two of the world's largest and most profitable casinos, is Chernobyl. "The Methodist minister from Illinois heads up the National Coalition Against Legalized Gambling and is probably the country's most vocal gambling opponent "…Grey likened the region that is home to Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun to the Ukrainian community devastated by nuclear disaster in 1986. He thinks this area is lost, but that it is not too late to save the rest of the state and region. "'We've quarantined you,' he said. 'The rest of New England has not bought on.' "…Since the Connecticut Coalition formed 18 months ago, the state group has worked with Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and other gambling opponents to repeal the Las Vegas Nights law that enabled Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun to open. The coalition also is attempting to reform the process of federal recognition for American Indians.
