Ancient UK Law May Be Repealed

5 February 2004

UNITED KINGDOM – As reported by the (United Kingdom) Press Association: "The repeal of a law dating back nearly 300 years which prevents gambling debts being enforced is among new clauses added to the draft Gambling Bill published today.

"Another clause gives the proposed Gambling Commission the power to freeze suspicious bets pending an investigation.

"The draft Bill will allow pubs to have two fruit machines automatically and more under licence.

"…A new clause will make gambling debt like any other, repealing a law dating back to 1710 that prevents gambling debts being enforced…"
