Analyst: Mississippi Projects Entice More Development

BILOXI, Mississippi -- As reported by the Clarion-Ledger — The opening of a $235 million Hard Rock Hotel & Casino this fall and a larger Isle of Capri Casino barge later this year are big projects that will entice even bigger investments in Mississippi's gaming industry, says a gaming analyst.

"'That should make all financing more attractive,' said Jacques Cornet, a gaming analyst for CIBC World Markets, who spoke Wednesday during the Southern Gaming Summit.

"Also under way on the Gulf Coast is a $50 million Silver Slipper Gambling Hall & Saloon that is set to open this fall in Waveland.

"Daniel Davila, a gaming analyst with Stern, Agee & Leach in New Orleans, said signs are that Mississippi's gaming industry, with 12 of the state-regulated 29 casinos on the Gulf Coast, is poised for an upswing.

"… Larry Gregory, executive director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission, said the good thing about casino developments is 'jobs, jobs, jobs.' He expects Hard Rock and Silver Slipper to create a total of 2,100 jobs…"
