Ameristar Vying for Philadelphia Slots License4 March 2005PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – As reported Philadelphia Inquirer: "A Las Vegas-based operator of riverboat and land casinos has emerged as another contender for a Philadelphia slots license. "The firm, Ameristar Casinos Inc., runs the sort of old-fashioned gambling operation that experts have said Philadelphia should avoid if it wants to maximize the economic impact from the city's two slot parlors. "Ameristar operates in Missouri, Iowa, Mississippi and Nevada, where it runs Cactus Petes Resort Casino in the town of Jackpot. "It has an option to purchase 46 acres along the Delaware River just north of Penn Treaty Park owned by companies controlled by James J. Anderson, a Bucks County contractor and a significant political contributor to both parties…" |
