Ameristar helps expecting mothers

MISSOURI -- As reported by Kansas City Community News: "Covering the gap.

"That's a term used often in the health care field when discussing insurance coverage, especially since new restrictions have left thousands without Medicaid.

"That was the case with Veronica, a 23-year-old mother from Parkville who is expecting her second child in January and could not afford insurance to cover the cost of prenatal care of delivery.

"But she will now get prenatal and delivery costs paid for, thanks to a partnership between Northland Health Care Access, a group of Northland physicians, and Ameristar Casino.

"The casino has donated $25,000 to pay for the care for expectant mothers who qualify. The program is the first of its kind in the Northland.

"...The program is open to mothers 35 years old or younger who are past the first trimester. They must sign an agreement that they will keep all doctors' appointments and follow a physician's instructions. The program covers all prenatal care, and depending on costs, ultrasound..."
