American Aquarium to perform at Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs4 April 2019(PRESS RELEASE) -- America has grown to love the raw and “rootsy” rock sound that is the signature of American Aquarium. On Saturday, 10 May, they bring those unique and soulful lyrics to Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs. The free admission show in Dog Iron Saloon begins at 8 p.m. For nearly a decade, American Aquarium spent the majority of their days on the road, burning through a sprawl of highways during the day, playing hours of music at night. American Aquarium’s songs, filled with biographical lyrics about last calls, lost love and long horizons, have always explored both sides of that divide. It’s that kind of honesty that makes the band’s newest album, “Wolves,” their strongest release to date, and it almost didn’t happen. In 2012, the members of American Aquarium were convinced the “Burn.Flicker.Die.” album would be their last. Though they had enlisted the help of award-winning singer-songwriter Jason Isbell to produce the sessions, they were exhausted by more than a decade of heavy touring. BJ Narnam, the band’s frontman, was so poor he’d been living out of a storage unit for months, unable to afford an apartment in the band’s hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina. “Burn.Flicker.Die.” eventually proved itself to be the band’s most successful release to date. Critics loved it. Fans rallied behind it. Fast forward two years and almost 500 shows later, the band has traveled the world, quadrupled their fan base and reinvented their passion for the road. When it came time to record another album in June 2014, it only made sense to do something that celebrated survival. Their 2015 album, “Wolves,” was funded entirely by American Aquarium’s diehard fan base. The album’s 10 tracks represent a departure from the band’s signature twang and, instead, draw more from the alternative rock sound that inspired their name almost a decade ago. In late 2016, “Live at Terminal West” was released by the band from a live recording in Atlanta, Georgia. |
