Alleghany police get funding30 November 2007PENNSYLVANIA -- As reported by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: "Allegheny County law enforcement agencies received grants totalling nearly $600,000 Thursday to combat illegal slot machines, the State Gaming Control Board announced. "The board awarded $5 million in grants this year statewide for training, education and enforcement, said board member Ken McCabe, who presented checks to Pittsburgh and Allegheny County police, and the county District Attorney's Office. "...Pittsburgh police Chief Nate Harper and county police Superintendent Charles Moffatt said vice squads in each of their departments investigate complaints about illegal slot machines and periodically go undercover to play machines and see if the owners offer payouts. Both said the grant money will allow them to pay additional overtime costs to vice squad investigators and possibly increase the number of detectives..." |
