Alleged Crime Boss to Build Egyptian Casino

TABA, Egypt – As reported by Haaretz: "Assi Abutboul bought a building in Taba and is planning to set up a hotel and casino there with business partners. Abutboul promised the Egyptians at least half the employees would be their citizens.

"Abutboul closed the family-owned casino in Prague as part of a mammoth deal in which he bought a hotel building in Taba, not far from the Taba Hilton.

"…Some of Abutboul's partners in the project are apparently Egyptian businessmen. The deal became possible when, among other factors, the Abutboul group made the commitment to Egyptian authorities that at least 50 percent of the hotel and casino staff would be Egyptian.

"…Police say Assi Abutboul heads a crime organization, but associates insist the family's gambling operations are legal and Abutboul has no criminal convictions, though he was arrested several times.

"Two weeks ago, unknown assailants made a failed attempt to assassinate Abutboul outside his casino in Prague…"
