All-day casinos 'will add to gambler risk'24 January 2007LONDON, England -- As reported by the Times: "Casinos will be allowed to open their doors all day under new plans drawn up by the Government, which critics say could allow problem gamblers to lose money around the clock. "At present casinos can open from 2pm until 6am six days a week, closing at 4am on Sundays. But under the new proposals, set out in a consultation document last year, casinos will be able to apply to their local authority for permission to extend their opening hours for up to 24 hours a day. "...Last night the Government said that it believed 'local authorities — accountable to local people — are best judges to decide whether hours should be increased or decreased.'..." |
